About

many of the foundational hypertext experiments are lost forever. in trying to recreate an image provided by salvarez, i retraced the specific path a reader might take not in navigating the text but in finding a legible copy which becomes its own textual performance. my attempt to acquire this text resulted in potential leads from museums, collectors, and the author of the hypertext software, but ultimately the text remained outside of my reach due to fear of copyright infringement. the logical conclusion of this project was clear: i purchased a text book that included a copy on a cd, ripped it, and then redistributed michael joyce’s WOE as a mac system 7 virus that turns the os into cellular automata as soon as you try to read it. special thanks goes to ken knowlton and the developers of GHIDRA, the NSA’s software reverse engineering framework, “built to solve scaling and teaming problems on complex SRE efforts, and to provide a customizable and extensible SRE research platform.”
